FY 2019 HSRs for HAC Reduction Program Scoring Calculations Review and Corrections Period released
July 25, 2018
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released FY 2019 HAC Reduction Program HSRs via QualityNet Secure File Transfer. The HAC Reduction Program HSR includes: measure results, Winsorized measure results, Winsorized z-scores, Domain 1 score, Domain 2 score, Total HAC Score, and payment reduction status. CMS gives hospitals 30 days to review their HAC Reduction Program data and submit questions about the calculation of their results. The report includes a user guide with information about the contents of the HSR. The 30-day Scoring Calculations Review and Corrections period begins on July 27, 2018 and ends at 11:59 PM PT on August 27, 2018.
If hospitals identify discrepancies in the calculation of their CMS Recalibrated Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) 90 (CMS PSI 90) measure results and score, hospital-associated infections (HAI) measure scores, Domain scores, or Total HAC Score, they may request a review of the calculations by sending an email to email@example.com no later than 11:59 PM PT on the final day of the Scoring Calculations Review and Corrections period. The subject line of the email should read “HACRP: Scoring Calculations Review and Corrections Inquiry.”
The Scoring Calculations Review and Corrections process does not allow hospitals to submit additional corrections to the underlying claims data for CMS PSI 90, or add new claims to the data extract CMS used to calculate the results.
Under Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program, hospitals had an opportunity to submit, review, and correct chart-abstracted information for the HAI measures: Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI), Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI), Surgical Site Infection (SSI) (colon and hysterectomy), Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia, and Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI). The Scoring Calculations Review and Corrections period does not allow hospitals to correct: 1) reported number of HAIs; 2) Standardized Infection Ratios (SIRs); and 3) reported central-line days, urinary catheter days, surgical procedures performed, or patient days.
CMS encourages hospitals to review their HSRs and submit questions about the calculation of their results to firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible, but no later than 11:59 PM PT on August 27, 2018.
